I've spent much time looking in the archives, but haven't found much discussion on WHY 240 fuel pump relays heat up and fail.
My '78 245 has gone through 2 relays in the last couple of years--obvious signs of burning on the circuit boards.
What is drawing too much power? Is this a sign of impending main fuel pump failure (prongs #30 and 87 have shown some meltdown). AFAIK, this is the original main fuel pump in this old brick.
Is wiring needed to be replaced (one of the helpful guys at ipd suggests these old K-jets are under wired... but the question is _where_?). I've looked all over for anything weird, and only found a chewed up and failing impulse sensor harness from the distrib to the ignition control box (thus I fixed my most immediate problem).
There must be a good explanation why these relays heat up and fail. My previous 12 years with the car had no such failures!
No matter how much beating, this old horse of fuel pump relays isn't dead yet!
