In a bit of a spot here. Mistakenly removed lower valve body "large dog leg cover" and later discovered three 5.5mm plastic balls & one 0.245 inch plastic ball in my catch basin along w/ a 0.078" x 0.218" long pin. I believe the later may be trash from some past activity - please advise. The BIG problem is where do they go & are there only four in the lower valve body? I see what appears to be several chamfered holes but don't really want to guess at their location - CAN ANYONE HELP? This is all happening under the car, 1988 740 GLE, nonturbo, 8-valve w/ new headgasket. The reason I'm in here is that I found water (milky fluid in trany)w/ kickdown cable binding. Found a great write-up but unfortunately did not define location for these LOWER VALVE BODY balls.
Toni: do you still have that piece of paper indicating where the balls go? As you say TP 31642/1 service manual oddly enough does talk about these balls.
THANKS for any help you can provide - even correct count of balls for the lower valve body would help. I see there are four balls in the upper valve body - don't have this apart yet & w/o gaskets probably won't go there even though I'd like to check that 1st to 2nd shift ball diameter.
Latest: I find a place for the larger ball and four places for the smaller 5.5 mm blue balls in the upper side of the lower valve body "PLATE" as indicated by small chamfers. Can't find another ball for the life of me; so now in this quantry of whether this thing takes five balls or four & where they go. Does anybody know how many BALLS go into the LOWER VALVE BODY of an Aisin-Warner AW70 transmission? Getting desperate in PA!!!
