My friend recently purchased a large oem tachometer from the junkyard. Having previously done this upgrade on my '84 245 I figured it would be no problem on his '88. I told him to go ahead and pull the cluster and I would help him get it all back together. The prolem is that he doesn't know how many wires he pulled when removing the cluster, much less where they go. Obviously, the round and half-moon connectors are in the correct place. The white/red wire is running to the tach (this tachometer is a two-prong at the bottom type, wire is running to the prong closest to the speedometer). So, three wires are hooked up properly, only four left.
The remaining wires:
Orange w/ spade connector
Blue w/ spade connector
Yellow/Red w/ small spade connector
L- shaped 3 wire connector (blue,black,red/black)
I believe the yellow/red wire goes to the bottom corner behind the fuel gauge.
The only other hookup I see is a two-prong between the speedometer and the circle connector. Perhaps the orange and blue wires go here? I see no spot for the l shaped 3 wire (and no it's not the reverse fog light connector).
On my '84, only 3 things are connected to the back of my cluster - white/red tach wire, circle connector, and half-moon connector. I have the terminal behind the fuel gauge mentioned in the previous paragraph, however, nothing is connected to it and everything works fine in my cluster.
With his tachometer wire, circle connector, and half moon connecter hooked up, exactly like mine, nothing works.
The car we are working on is a 1988 245 n/a 5 spd. Any help would be very much appreciated.
