Hey all-
Been a while since I've posted anything here. I've got a '92 240 wagon with about 262k- upstate NY winters (lots of salt). I've recently observed evidence of a fuel leak which has been softening the undercoating on the back side of the fuel tank- I've also noticed a gasoline odor in the vicinity of the fuel tank after stopping the car. I suspect the sender is rusted (since these are prone to this and especially since my gas gauge quit working about 1.5 years ago). I haven't pulled the deck off of the wagon to check it out, however on limited visual inspection I see no evidence of a fill pipe leak and I know its kind of rare for the tank itself to leak. I know I'll have to fix this ASAP. At any rate, my question is whether or not y'all think its ok to continue driving the car for a few days, or can this become a major leak and therefore a substantial fire hazard?
Any and all help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
