I've been tracking a "hickup" in my idle, a single stall incident, ocassional raw gasoline smell at startup, and a generally lowered fuel economy.
As a preventive measure, I purchased a new Bosch Fuel Pressure Regulator ($45.00) and installed it last friday. Since then, my idle hickup has been reduced, but is still present. Of much greater concern is that when I filled up today (midweek) I put 11.7 gallons into a car that had only run 217 miles (19.5 mpg). A week previous, I filled up with 16.6 gallons after 335.2 miles (20.19 mpg)
My regular commute is 60 miles round trip. 50 of those miles are flat highways miles with my cruise set to 65mph. I don't spend excessive time parked at lights, and I do minimal 'round town driving. I have very new tires and keep a regular maintenance schedule ('though I'm now due for my oil change).
This is a small drop, but my milage should not have gotten worse with a new FPR.
I checked the unit this morning and found no gas leakage around the O-ring.
I did notice a vague fuel smell (?!?) in the vacuum line when I pulled it, but not a strong smeel and no actual liquid fuel. This might be residual from the installation, maybe not...
For the moment, lets hope that my new FPR is not defective. What else could be going on here killing my mileage?
