Hi,
I have noticed some odd performance behavior with my 1990 744 Turbo in cold weather and sometimes warm weather.
Suppose that I drive the car from a cold start onto the highway for fifty minutes (It could even be just letting it run for five minutes or warming it). The car warms, everything runs as it should, but it feels slightly under-powered throughout the entire driving session. Now, if I turn off the car, be it for 10 seconds or five minutes (as long as it does not cool too much or more than an hour) and restart it, it will run with even more power; its acceleration will be noticably greater. I have to admit that I am baffled by this and find this initial impotence quite annoying.
Could there be any rational reason for this behavior? I have to admit that I shy away from snake-oil, so I would prefer an evidence-founded answer if possible.
While I am asking things here, I am wondering if anyone could explain why when I hit the brakes relatively hard the car seems as if it is going to choke itself and quit running. Sometimes it has quit running, so I am a bit worried.
Am I missing some routine items of repair that would address both of these issues?
