erratic idle during warmup 200 1989

starts fine. About 5 mins into warmup (especially if humid), engine will stumble on acceleration and even stall occasionally. Give it another 2-3 mins and everything is OK again.

I've also had the odd time after highway driving when the idle would suddenly go to ~2000 rpm and then right back to idle, like I had stabbed the accelerator.

Any ideas? Would these be related? I have pollution test coming up and would like to solve this one.

I've replaced the dist cap and cleaned the easy things, including the 25 amp fuse.
I cleaned the idle motor last summer, but that didn't help.

The wire broke on the code reader, so i don't know if there are any codes. (got to fix that too!)
