Reparing a voltage regulator by replacing the brushes 200 1991

I have an alternator voltage regulator with worn out brushes. The brushes are spring-loaded within a rectangular section sleeve. It looks like the wire attached to the brushes passes through a slitted tube that is crimped to hold it (the wire) in place. The wire/tube interface also appears to be soldered.

If I desolder the wire, will it and the attached brush come out, or do I also need to uncrimp the wire?

Thanks. I'm hoping to avoid paying $32 for a new voltage regulator. Especially when the brushes are only $3!
