Hi everyone,
Over Xmas I fitted a new hub/brake disc and caliper at the front RHS, and intend to repeat procedure for front LHS. I was never quite happy with the firmness of the pedal after the caliper install, but decided to let it settle which improved it somewhat. I still decided to leave it until renewing the LHS caliper and then bleed whole system. Inten diung that job in the spring sometime, when the weather is better.
About a week and a half ago I noticed that the brake failure light came on, but thought no more about it as another press on the brake pedal made the light go away. I did not use the car again, but power washed it last weekend, including the wheels, then left it parked. Yesterday when I attempted to use the car, one of the wheels were locked solid and I could not reverse out of my driveway even giving it full throttle in reverse gear. jacked up the car at each wheel in turn and traced the locked wheel to the rear left one. Removed brake disc and caliper and found that there was rust both at the hand brake shoes and at the pads/disc. Looks like the water rusted the pads to the disc. Anyway, I managed to free the pads/ shoes, cleaned up area and put everything back together.
Took a test drive and everything seems to work fine. However on the way back home the brake failure light came back on again. Goes away if the brake pedal is pressed again, buit comes back again. What is the problem? Did I let the brake fluid go down too far when I replaced the caliper, perhaps, but I topped up the fluid again after the install. Could I have a suspect caliper that seizes and causes the light to come on. Any ideas. gratefully received. I am sightly apprehensive to drive the car too much without resolving this issue.
