This is a new tracking or wandering issue on my 1993 940. About 10 weeks ago I installed new shocks, struts inserts, strut mounts, sway bar link bushings, ball joints, four stock sized MX4V, and control arm stay bushings. After a Hunter 4 wheel alignment, the car had perfect feel and tracking.
Four weeks ago the car had developed a wandering problem. The best way to describe it is the car cannot hold a straight line and I continuously have to correct left and right with slight steering wheel movements. Note that this was several weeks after I had to remove one of the struts to tighten the big nut that holds the insert in the strut tube. I left the nut hand tight and failed to give it the final lock-in blow. I also had the tires rotated to rule out a tire issue. The tie rod ends seem tight but the only thing I can thing of is replacing them and getting another front end alignment.
Conclusion: the wandering may be a delayed reaction due to having to R&R one of the struts. To stay on the safe side I will replace the tie rod ends and hope another $67 front end alignment fixes the problem.
Questions, what advantage would replacement of the inner tie rods have? Any thing I’m missing?
