Primer and Paint for Various Parts 444-544 1958

Hey guys and gals.

I am having a local shop/garage bead-blast some of the smaller parts (front axle, heater core casing, bumper brackets, etc.) down to the bare metal. I have also wire-wheel-brushed some other parts (tie rods, heater core motor, etc.) down to the bare metal. I am then priming these with Rust-Oleum 7582 Gray Primer (their Professional line) and painting some of these with 7579 Gloss Black (also Professional line) and the high-heat items with 7778 Bar-B-Q Black. I have been adding a few coats of each. So far all the parts are turning out very good from what I can tell.

I returned to the local garage today to drop off some more parts to be bead-blasted and one of the employees told me I should use an "etching" type primer before painting. I did a little research on this and see where this might be the best way to go. I am a little worried now because I have already painted and restored many items.

I see that Rust-Oleum also has an "Automotive" primer as well as a "clean metal" primer.

Am I wrong to use the 7582 Professional primer? If so, will I need to remove/redo what I have done and should I be using something else? (Is what I have done really bad?)

I have also sent a note to the Rust-Oleum folks to see what they say.

Thanks in advance.
