My 92 Volvo 240 currently has tires the following size: 185/70R14 88T. Trying to find new tires in that size. Merchants, Walmart, Mr. Tire, Tirerack, Firestone/Bridgestone/Dayton, Discount tire, Sears and Costco are recomend a limited amount of tires that are 185/70R14 87S, or 185/70R14 87T. Tirerack only has one tire in the 185/70R14 88T size Kumho Power Star 758, but even Kumho decribes this tires as a low end economy tire. I am interested in traction in the rain I don't do a ton of snow but maybe light snow. DC gets humid and sometimes we get rains that are aweful. I was looking forward to the Mich Hydroedge from costco, but they are 87s. Goodyear/Just Tires by the way will only sale me Integrity Tires because they are Load index 88 but only speed S, or Republic tires which I've never heard of and seem to be cheap.
Questions: Does Load Index Matter? Does it have to be an 88, can I use 87? The folks at goodyear said no.
Should I get s or T speed rating. The current tires are T rated the car in Theory can get 120. I've taken her to 110. She rides nice.
I got her used in January, the tires she came with are still on her theybe been rotated and balanced a three or four times and I have an alignment. The tires are okay but I can see their age.
