cold start knock 900 1992

At 140,000+ miles, I still have a deep engine knock, during warm up, especially in cold temps. My dealer suggests some piston slap, tried 5W 30 oil(been using Castrol l0W 30 since day one) No success. Hasn't changed for 30-40K miles. I change oil& filter every 3 months, or 3,000 miles. Any suggestions?
