pin for lower valve body 700 1992

I am servicing the AW71L valve body on my 92 740. When handeling the lower valve body a rather long retaining pin fell out, about 2-3 in long. I have no idea where it goes and the various manuals and faqs I have seen dont show it. Does anybody know where it goes?
