How far should timing advance? 200

Mine's an '85 244 B230F w/181K on it. When I put a timing light on it and increase the RPMs the notch on the crank pulley goes from 12 to only about 20 degrees BTDC. I think in the past it used to advance a lot more then this. How far should it advance?
