My 89 240 dl has recently started cutting out under load. The best description I can give about the problem may be too general for anyone to help but I thought it worth trying. Idling is fine. I can also rev the engine up in park or neutral and it sounds good, but under load the engine will cut out sometimes. The one thing that seems different about this situation from similar ones is that the "check engine" light comes on and goes back off (for a split second) every time it cuts out. Normally the check engine light comes on and stays on if it is going to come on at all but with this particular problem it is directly in-tune with the engine cutting out. The car also backfires from time to time. Any ideas? Thank you.
