Ok so maybe Im not the Volvo expert that the rest of you are but I have an opinion and a few more questions for what its worth. Looking over the site for the last 3 weeks, Ive seen lots of good questions and lots of great answers. A few to a question I had a while back.
I noticed that lots of you run M1 and AMS oil. Is there any thing wrong with running conventional oil and changing it every 3k. Everyone seems to agree on running Mann filter over any other. Seems to me that the engines were desighed to run like this. For those who run longer its great to see oil sampling going on. I can tell those people are into there cars. Ive noticed at the place I work, theyve changed from 250hrs to 500hrs between oil changes. The key to keeping your warranty up is to have it sampled. were running 15-40.
On turbos Ive allways been told to let them idle up 2-4 min to ensure oiling to the turbo. I was wondering about turbos when Cummins put an engine in a Dodge. Well they held up well. And Im shure that Volvo drivers have been dealing with this a lot longer than us heavy diesel guys. Id say that most of the turbo problems we see are lack of oil changes(pushing the hrs/milage) and lack of oiling to turbo(dry starts).
Ok so heres what Im doing with my 740 wagon. Is this good or bad?
Oil Penzoil 10-30 filter wix or Volvo NOW mann every 3k and flame trap 15 to 20k. Air filter insp everyother oil change. Anyone tell me what the "red block" means?
