Hello, I am a volvo lover, and after the demise of my first Volvo ('86 740, 300,000 miles!) I could not wait until I found another. I stumbled onto an almost mint 1990 760TI with 170,000. The engine runs so well, that with BAD mounts, the engine wont shake at idle. Runs like a dream. The only problem is that, after 150miles of my use, the turbo makes this awful knocking\ticking noise. I have done a search and couldnt really find what I wanted to know. Is this an indication of the water cooled-turbo's death? Or, is this just an exhaust manfold\gasket issue? How would I find the leak if it is an exhaust problem? The car doesnt smoke, and the turbo provides ample boost. The car idles quietly, but whenever the turbo spools up, the noise resumes. What is going on?
