I was going to listen to parking instructions over the airport radio in my 90 740T with a 614 dolby tape/4 speaker radio and EQ, but...
I got noise. boy did I get noise. I don't really mind the loss of AM, but I'd like everything to work. As I decelerated from 70 to 50, a dropping high pitched tone came in through the speakers: ssssshhhhhhhhBEEEEEoooooowwwwwuuuuuuuuussshhhhhh
so.. what? Also, my FM has about a 6-foot extension on it and two junctions in the antenna wiring. I've repeatedly "fixed" this (cut back more insulation from the coax, reattached wiring to plug), but the tightening of the screw onto the centerline copper wire seems to weaken the wire and cause it to snap. I know there need only be a contact, but I want to ensure it is a good one. Any good techniques? When I do this, sometimes the reception is crystal, other times it seems to fade - that's when I know the wire has snapped. There is not any stress on the plug.
I think I can remove the extension wire, as the problem exists in it, not the others.
