NO start, need help 700

My recently purchased 91 740t auto, with 106k, went through a time where it would start and run fine, but if you shut it off after it was running it wouldnt' restart.

Now it won't start at all. Have fuel pressure, have spark, plugs are not wet, can't feel the injectors firing, but not sure if I could when it's cranking. Thinking crank angle sensor or no power to the brain or ??? Just towed it home, will be getting into it this week.

Any common problem areas to look at?
Is there a substitute for the scan tool that is talked about in the manual for troubleshooting? switch, resistor, and LED?
