M46 Trany OD Doesnt Engage 700 1985

Checked fluid level and wire connections on selenoid-both fine; light indicator on dash comes on but, OD will not engage; 740 non-turbo w/195K miles; Iam the original owner, trany oil has never been changed-what are the next diagnosis steps?
