145 running hot 140-160

so the other day i figured out why my 145 had a loss of power and was running oddly. both the springs in the dizzy had diaspered. looks like i was running 10 deg of advance the whole time. so i put in another dizzy i have. now the engine gets hot real quick. even at idle. the timing is set to 10 deg. the advance seems to go to high though. it will go to 32 deg.i don't have any pinging at that advance. the manual says that the max advance shoud be 23. maybe the springs in the dizzy are to weak? they are both in there atleast. i've also tried setting the base timing back a bit but can't get it to idle below 10 deg very well. i have checked the cooling system. it always bubbles in the overflow tank a bit. i've checked for leaks and can't find any. but it doesn't seem to hold pressure. i even have checked to see if there was exaust gases in the coolant, none. the water pump and heater core are close to new. one thing odd is that the radiator only gets hot across the top. the rest of it stays very cool. could i have a cloged radiator? any other stuff to check? thanks
