alloy wheels/spoiler question 200 1981

I have a 242DL that has the 14 inch steel wheels. In my owner's manual it states that if I install alloy wheels (i.e., Virgos) I have to install a front airdam. I have a GT airdam but I'm hesitant to install it because I know it'll hit the driveway when I enter/exit the driveway. What kind of problems will occur if I install Virgos without an airdam and how to solve them, if necessary? Thanks for your input.
