A Moment of enlightenment fixes my 4th gear 'pop out' 140-160

Ok, Now I feel a sigh of relief.
Last summer I put an M41 in my 142 and it has always been popping out of 4th, (very frustrating). I have been thinking all this time that I dropped the tranny on its side while trying to hoist that thing up into the car and knocked the ball out of the detent in the shifting rod. I thought I was looking forward to dropping the whole transmission, just to put that little steel ball back in, arrgggh!....then I noticed the trans. poping out of second! Huh?
The car has this plastic console that looked like it was an accessory for the car since new, and I noticed, "gee" the ruber shift boot sure seems tight against that. ....Remove the console, (two screws) and no more Poping out of gear. WaLa, "fixed" the tranny!
I aplogize if I spelled "WaLa" wrong, I really had no idea how to spell it.
