The low oil pressure warning light on my 1988 240 wagon (190K miles) came on abruptly (no history of flickering). Oil level OK. It continues to come as soon as the engine reaches operating temperature, at first only when engine speed is above an idle, but very soon it is on for good (until engine cools). This is not a sensor problem; mechanical gauge confirms pressure dropping to almost zero. Oil pump strainer is clear, feed pipe o-rings OK, and at least the rod bearings don't show too much wear. Any ideas? Could it be the oil pressure relief valve acting up?
