Hello,
I've been battling a wheel-cylinder replacement for three days now. It took me two days just to get the castle-nut off. I had to search out a correct size socket for my wrench, and a length of conduit to use as a a leverage extender. I was satisfied when I finally got just that off! I even broke a length of socket-extender which couldn't handle the torque and twisted right in half!
Now my battle is with the drum. My initial try with my heavy-duty uni-puller (three-arm) was not a success. Unfortunately the rain started to come on yesterday, forcing me to pack up after only twenty minutes of trying. I sprayed in some PBR solvent for overnight work and took off the puller for storage. I would have liked to leave the puller on and exerting full pulling force overnight, but the vehical is parked out on the street and I didn't want to risk having the tool walk off.
So... I'll be tackling it again today. If any fellow vintage volvo-nuts are located in the close-in SE area of PDX and would like some "fun" with moral and muscular support, I'd be glad to hang out and pull this sucker off with a buddy. Perhaps you have some extra tools or expertise you could lend some help with? My puller for example lacks the part that slips onto the end so that you can pound a hammer on it. I bought my puller for twenty-bucks used and figured I could just use a proper sized socket on the end with the extender pipe for leverage again. I think it should work fine, but today will be the test I suppose.
So, it's a long shot I think, but if you're game email me at "caramel-bonbon(at-sign)caramail.com".
Oh, and when is the monthly Lucky Lab get-together? I live about four blocks away from there. That should be coming up soon I think?
