Drip Rails 120-130

I had to take off the driver's side chrome drip rail to make some rust repairs. As hard as I tried I couldn't get it off without putting a lot of bends into it. I tried again by taking off the drip rail of my donor car. I lifted very slowly with a sharp but rubber-ringed tile-spacer remover. I did better but not great.

Anyone have experience with this? Because when I put a new one on after painting, I am afraid of making errors and bends and scratches.
