How to check inner tie rod 200 1989

My 240 has around 120,000 miles on it and I know the tie rod ends need to be replaced along with other front-end suspension parts. I am the second owner so I do not know the repair history of the car. I just like to know how to check the inner tie rods to see they also need to be replaced or I am better off just doing it. Also how difficult it is to R&R the inner tie rods?
