Greetings All!
I recently purchased a factory sales brochure for the '69 164, printed in
January of that year. Gorgeous photos of a car in the rare dark blue (or black?) paint---(rent the movie "Making Mr. Right".)
The fine-print in the folder contained some technical trivia that I was already aware of, but perhaps not every 164 admirer knows: the first cars had
the narrow 4 1/2" wheels, and the curb weight was only 2840 lbs.---but of course it didn't take long for that to climb to 3100. Automobiles--like their owners--tend to spread.
But what really caught my attention was the full-page photo of the
engine; it is shown equipped with the yellow PLASTIC radiator fan.
Now, all my used '69's & '71's came with a metal fan (by the time they got to me, anyway.) Somewhere along the way, I developed the idea that the plastic fan didn't appear until '73 or '74. Have I been (GASP!) mistaken???
Interested in hearing from anyone with definite knowledge to share.
