o2 plug in the header pipe went flying 200 1988

My noisy muffler has needed replacing for a while now but today while I was driving I heard a pop and it got a whole lot worse.
The quarter sized whole which I assume is a port for the o2 sensor had blown its plug. I'm wondering what would make it do that? Could I have a bad cat converter that isn't letting the exhaust flow freely? Curious for your thoughts and wondering if anyone knows where I can grab another plug. Thanks!
