Installing a 240 alternator on a B18/20 generator bracket 444-544

I tried this after frying 2 generators in 2 days. Rather than track down the issue I obviously had I opted to modify a 55A alternator from an early 80s 240 to fit the generator bracket.

I've been running it for over 1000 miles with no issuues whatsoever now so I figured it's a solid enough conversion to share. A great many of those miles were on the freeway at 4K rpm. It does require grinding the alternator housing in a couple of places but these are very common and cheap in pick and pulls so I'm not too worried about core value.

I get a good steady 14.7V at idle, brighter headlights and best of all I haven't seen the warning light when 20 miles away from home like the last time the generator failed. Rewireing to use the alternator is dead simple.

I put up a quick page on the conversion. So far it's been the best $25 I've spend on the old girl.
