I bought a 89 240 Volvo for $50.00
The last owner said it failed smog & was a gross polluter.
She had a full engine check up the paperwork said that the
valve seals and rings were bad. I checked the plugs and they
were fine. The old owner replaced three plugs and couldnt get
one out. So 2,3,4 cyl plugs were replaced with Ngk plugs.
Come to find out before she smogged the vehicle the three plugs
were gapped at 1900 Being the wrong gap wouldnt that cause fuel
that wasnt burned to be mixed withe the engine oil? I Actully got
the #1 Plug to come out and it was fine look like a normal burned plug.
So since the plugs were clean wouldnt that mean the valve seals and rings
are ok? The compression for each cyl was all over 150. I have not checked
for good vaccume suction yet but I did a full tune up and she is
running smooth. I cleaned the pcv valve it didnt look to bad.
How do i clean the tube and the pcv black box? Can the Egr get blocked?
What do I need to check before I go smog this car?
