Hello All:

I am going to be replacing the steel coolant line that runs from the back of the block on the passenger side toward the oil cooler (my car has the Mitsu turbo). The line that is on it now has a piece of garden hose(!) covering what must be either corrosion or damage to this line-- in any case it is leaking slightly, and it needs to be fixed right. I have the correct rubber oil cooler hoses and yesterday I pulled a good hard line and petcock assembly at a pick-and-pull.

My question is: what was used to seal the connections at the block? It looks like there was some kind of "pipe dope" on the nipple and on the captive nut on the line that attaches to the nipple, but it was so oil-soaked and dirty that it wasn't possible to tell what it was...

I am considering just applying teflon tape, unless there is something more appropriate for this application. If there is, please enlighten me!
