Possibly the worst job on a 140 140-160 1971

Hello all,

My wipers have been dying for almost 2 years and I have been putting off the job as I knew it wouldn't be fun...I had no idea!! Well I got the new motor and linkage assembly in but WOW what a horrible job. After removing the instrument cluster, heater hoses and connectors, about 30 wires, heater fan switch, fuse block, all 3 heater control cables, loosening the choke cable linkage, heater core and fan assembly (there might be more), I was finally able to shimmy out the wiper assembly. Of course reassembly was the easy part. I never want to do this again!! I told my wife that if the wipers go out on her car (72 142E) we are selling it!! I will now need several trips to the chiropractor to repair my neck and lower back after spending so much time training to be a contortionist under the dash.
However, it sure is nice to have quiet, working wipers up here in the North West!!!

I pity the fool who has this job on their Volvo repair list!!

Take care everyone,
Wayne

PS. If you know of some easy trick for this job, please don't tell me after what I have been through! Thanks.
