A/C KNOB AND DIPSTICK 200 1984

I recently bought a 1984 Volvo 240 GL.IT has factory A/C and the A/C knob on the dash next to the seatbelt light has no markings on it.It just turns clockwise and counterclockwise about 3/4 of a turn.Which way is colder??? Also how full is full on the engine oil dipstick???It has no writing(i.e)Full or add marks ,like traditional dipsticks.This is my first volvo and I am also looking to purchase a owners manuel fot it also.Thanks
