Re-upholstered Recaro Seats 444-544

The fellow who was going to re-upholster the junkyard Recaro seats I have in my PV ended up in the hospital, and in the three month he had them in his shop never managed to get started on them. Poor guy! But driving season was coming up, so I took the seats home again and, not without some trepidation, tackled the job myself. His quote was $500 for the job, I spent $50 on materials and $52.10 (+ $25 for shipping) on e-Bay for a 1951 Singer 201 sewing machine. Never having done anything like this before - not even operating a sewing machine - it took me about ten days to do the job, not counting the five days I spent keeping that brave little machine in tune as I forced it to chew its way through as much as four layers of vinyl.
