960 Sunroof won't open 900

Yesterday the sunroof on my '95 960 began acting up. It will tilt up, but if you try to slide it open it will move about 3 inches and stop with a thud. It seems to be striking something in its track. I tried to adjust the rear of the sunroof upward to where it's once again flush with the roof, but no change in symptoms. Any ideas?
