How Do I Remove the Door Handles and Window Cranks? 444-544 1964

Greetings!
We're freshening up the interior of our PV and can't get the window cranks & Door handles off. I looked in the manual and it shows using a special tool to pry back the handle from the round metal part. OK I did that with a pair of flat blade screw drivers. That reveals a little pin. Now how do I release that pin? I tried tapping on it with a punch & ball peen to no avail. Help please.
