Part of my exhaust system came off yesterday (the L-bend rusted through and was dragging, so I yanked it off to drive home), so I am just about to order a new exhaust system from the catalytic converter back. I had taken my car into a muffler shop in January and they welded up several of the rust holes, but they said that a cat-back replacement would be needed soon.
I would like to replace the stock, 2-muffler N/A exhaust system with the single-muffler, larger-diameter turbo piping. I would like to order "authentic" Volvo parts because the last muffler system I got from a muffler shop is the one that's currently on the car--that's rusted through in a few years.
The ipd N/A sport kit, of course, would be ideal, but I see no point in paying an extra $60 or so for the ipd name. I see no reason why I can't get the (turbo) parts I need through FCP Groton and stop by an auto parts store for the remaining 2-inch-to-2.25-inch connector piece that costs like $5.
I'm checking out the turbo exhaust parts listed here and I want to make sure that those parts, plus the proper-size connector, can be installed on my N/A car. The connection to the turbo cat appears to be different from the connection to the N/A cat.
--What parts do I need to install the turbo cars' exhaust system on my N/A car?
--Is the N/A exhaust 2 inches in diameter and the Turbo exhaust 2.25"?
--What other important information do I need to know?
--Has anyone else sourced out the turbo parts themselves and installed them on their N/A car?
--Would it be easier to find a quality exhaust shop and just get them to do a complete custom one-muffler system?
