Timing 200

Okay folks, was having an acceleration hesitation problem (would slug on intial acceleration). Have a known good AMM, checked vacuum line on fuel pressure regulator, ended up adjusting both distributor and idle adjustment, have distributor adjusted with adjustment bolt far right (it was almost full left, forgive my ignorance don't know if that is advancing or retarding it) either way hesitation problem went away, Documentation states idle should be 750 rpm in "D"rive, currently showing it at 1250, any idea if this indicates a timing belt problem? or what may have caused me to have to make this change? Ran fine with distributor adjustment bolt in full left position, but changed exhaust/muffler, and changed out AMM, and hesitation came after that. Wondering if I have another problem that I need to correct.
