OK, I finally put my good stereo system in the car, locating it inside the glove box.
I got to use it one day...then the glove box door refused to open.
I removed the hinge screws and managed to pry the door open without damage.
Apparently the latch has given up the ghost. I can press the button in abotu half way, but the latch doesn't retract.
I removed the latch and very carefully disassembled it, I found that there is a little moveable arm that transfers the pressing motion to the latch itself, pulling the latch down so the door will open.
That tiny, pot metal part had sheared off at the point where it pivots.
I don't have anythingat all to make a new part from, so I guess I'll try to repair it. My plan at this point is to JB Weld the two parts together, then after the epoxy ghas set, to drill through both pieces and insert a length of piano wire.
If the JB Weld will keep the parts together and aligned long enough for me to get the wire in place, I think the repair will be much stronger than the original part.
Otherwise, I'll be watching eBay for a replacement.
Any suggextions?
Steve
BTW: I finally got a camera/computer link that will work for me to upload photos, so the tech piece on metal polishing is comign along.
