I have a Problem with my car, its a 1982 240 with K- Jet Fuel Injection system and the story goes like this:
I start my car cold, every thing runs fine, the Idle air control starts kicking in and raises the RPM to 2,200 then gradualy lowers it to the 800 rpm idle speed,"This normally does it since I had the car". Then I press the throtle pedal and as soon as I release it the Idle speed rises to 1000 to 1100 RPM. Then I put it on drive and the engine drops its Idle speed barely beeing able to to stay runing, and sometimes dies completely then when it stays on it rises the rpm to 800. when I put it back in parking it rises to 1300 rpm and goes back down to 1000.
I had the curiosity of disconecting the wire from the Thermo contact valve and then everything gets normal again. Idle speed stays in 800rpm and the shifting problem doesnt ocure. Does this mean my thermo contact valve is defective if it is Where can I find one I've searched every local auto part store and they dont have it. What does this temp. sensor do? All my book says its called a thermocontact valve, its located below the thermal time switch and that it comes on 1982 to 1985 models.
