spline-counts on front of layshaft of M41's? 120-130

Do all M41's have the same number of splines on the main-shaft coming out the front (layshaft I think?)? I think I've heard that sometimes the spline-count out the rear will not match up sometimes with the overdrive units dependending on era? Does anybody have a run-down of the mate-up things to look for with forward and rear M41 splines?
