headlights suddenly go off 700 1988

Hi all,

i have an 88 760 turbo intercooler and recently my headlights would just suddenly go off without warning. i've replaced the headlights and the problem went away for a couple of days before it started acting up again. i've taken it to a garage and they couldn't find the problem.

1 second before it goes off i would hear a faint 'zapp/buzz' sound inside the car. and it would randomly come back on again and then off again.

has anyone experience the same problem? any advice to fixing the problem would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
