Hi all -
I own a 93 245 wagon that runs like a top except for once in a blue moon the car does will not start in the driveway. Read on if you like Nancy Drew mysteries.
Here are the clues:
I have a driveway on a 5 degree slope down from the house.
1. When I park it facing out (nose down) the car always starts in the driveway.
2. When I park it facing in (nose up) the car sometimes will not start. (this only happens in the driveway facing in)
The following has been done to "fix" the issue:
a. Always park nose down and walk on the grass
b. Or, forget about a and park the car nose up. Get up, car does not start, go to work, come back from work, put "car" clothes on try to start the car- car starts. Turn the car around, nose down. Car always start nose down. (Up to this point I have not been able to troubleshoot the issue because the car always started when I came home from work)
c. Just this morning the car did not start; parking nose up. I figure I would park so I don't kill the grass. So this is what I did today (at last the car did not start when I got home):
Check verified spark to spark plugs. Verified sprak plugs were sparking.
Checked gas flow from fuel pumps, with car off and jumping the gas relay. Gas flowed fine.
Cleaned ground from ignition system on intake manifold.
Checked flow of gas from fuel pumps while cranking starter motor. At this point car started but had to turn car off due to the fuel line being disconnected
hooked up fuel lines car did not start.
Disconnected battery from car and charged it. (I believe the ECU was reset during this time)
Checked throttle switch and the correct code of 3-3-4 was given
When to check the speed sensor (to check for code 1-4-1) and WHAM the car started. Ran it for a while, turned the car around, nose down. Turned the car off and it restarted fine. Just tried it again and the car started right.
This weird no-start only happens nose up in the driveway. Am I destined to backing the car up the driveway and leaving a bald spot on the lawn where I get out of the car?
The only thing I can think of is that I have some weird bad wiring which is causing the ECU not to work.
Anybody have any thoughts?
