Out driving Inga and suddenly as the engine decelerated at a red light the oil light suddenly glowed brightly. Shut her down right in the middle of the street and pushed her off to the side. Did not hear any bad noises by the way. Checked the oil, level is fine, checked for leaks, did not find anything. There seems to be a slight oil leak from around the big metal oil cap on the valve cover. Restarted the car, opened the hood and checked everything and there was not problem. There seems to be a lot of blow back when the cap is removed and some when the dipstick is pulled. But this car always had some if memory serves me correctly. Anyway the light never came back on and I decided to drive on to complete my errand.
On the way home, one again the light popped on in the first 200 yards. Killed the engine and repeated the check for oil leaks (none) check oil level (good) and drove home about 10 miles with no problems and no more light. No loud knocks, a matter of fact ran very nicely.
Now the oil pressure and alt lights wires were replaced last weekend to replace bad wires. The connector for the oil pressure unit is out of pick ur parts because the old one fell to pieces. But the splice is a good one. Just changed the oil and filter yesterday (hince the checking the oil level over and over). Pan Plug is dry, oil filter is dry. Inga is being recalled ot service after over two years (almost 3) in storage by the way. She has never had this problem in the past.
How do you check your oil pressure? Sending unit or oil pump if there is an issue? To freak out or calm down and go to the happy place?
Got Ideas please pass them along.
