removing driver's vent 90 740T 700 1990

I've got a 90 740 turbo with a plugged driver's vent from disentigrating foam. I don't know the exact source of the foam, but it appears to be a sealant foam from the edges of the vent switching doors. I think that I have a not quite sealing door between floor and vent as my feet always seem to have cold air on them. It's not worth it to me to disassemble the entire dash. I looked into replacing my heater core, but it's either leaking none or not enough to make a difference.

That being said, I don't know how to remove any of the vents in my car. I've been to the boneyard and visited a trashed interior. The clips don't seem to be consistent across years. The driver's side is blocked almost entirely and my paperclip method is a bit haggard. The center vent is slightly torqued to one side as I started to remove it, got it stuck and chose to wait rather than damage the dash.

I have seen what appear to be springy nearly flat metal pieces pressing the vents' sides agains the vents. Does anyone know more?
