This appeared to be just the information I was looking for but when I opened my instrument cluster I found several major discrepancies. This may be because I have an 88 and the pictures and instructions are for a late 760 or a 900 with the "new" dash.
Differences:
2: All of the screws are the same length, even the one silver one on the lighting rheostat.
3: There are not 4 screws holding the speedometer head to the cluster body. Mine has 8, 5 of which are electrical connections. This is on an 88--other years vary somewhat
4:The needle is pressed onto a splined shaft. It looks like it would break if it were twisted. There is no need to remove it anyway, as the circuit board is mounted to the back of the unit with a single screw.
In other words, the whole thing is very different from what is described. The chip is not an ITT UAF 2115, though it may be functionally the same. It is marked BA6140A 703 659. The pins are not numbered. Which one is #4?
What I am trying to accomplish is to double the speed the gauge reads as I have swapped the rear axle---the old one had a 96 tooth pulse wheel, the new one has 48. I don't know which resistor needs to be changed, or even if it is possible to make this large of a change by substituting resistors. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
88 745 GLE. 3 other 7s parted out, many previous Volvos, from PV to 740. The Blue Horse was an exceptional 72 145E, many years ago
