OK, I swapped out my AMM (lousy thing had a screen torn and red PNP paint all over it) for a really nice/new Bosch replacement and the car is running a lot better than it was (not stalling mid road like previously)but still some stuff needs fixing. Most of the time after starting up, the car revs pretty high for about five seconds and then tapers off where upon it promptly dies with all the lights in the dash illuminated or it seems like it is about to die just to have it even out and run ok. Occasionally the high rev phenomenon is replaced by a series of high/low revs and with this it dies as well or continues to run. Normally, this only happens when the car hasn't been driven for a while but it happens sometimes even if the car is warm.
From what I can glean from the archives, it appears I have a bad ECU as my car's year was right in the middle of the J-Tron 2.4 problems that happen from time to time. My ECU is a yellow label 556 and was cleared for emissions about a year ago when I bought it from the seller. As I live in california, I read something about needing an EGR ECU. The car was not made to california specs so I'm guessing that its ok to to go with an improved 561 or even a 951 ECU without EGR. I wish I could give more info about the nature of the problems but some PO installed an alarm system that may or may not be the cause of my diagnostic unit failing to produce any signal whatsoever. A couple of Volvo mechanics have looked at it and are stumped as well.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
SoCal
