Starting problem 900 1991

I have a 1991 Volvo 940 which takes a spell and won't start. I wait for ten min or so and it will start. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator but it seems it did not help. It never does it at home so I can check it, it is always away from home. I am thinking there might be an electrical connection that might be intermintent....so I am looking for some ideas.
